Was summer in Vermont?
It's beautiful but overcast and chilly. I was starving after not having had breakfast when we left Nashville early. My first dinner was salmon and orange beets (beautiful). Out of some 2500 applicants, 600 of us are chosen to be here throughout the year. I'm so glad. With those odds, it makes it more remarkable that I have already met friends of colleagues or connected with others. For the most part, we've all had to make some considerable sacrifices in terms of job, family, whatever to be here. And you can see it on our faces, we are all pleased and glad for the opportunity to be with like minds and in our studios.
A few days ago, as I was thinking about being here in Vermont, I was recalling in my mind a studio visit/critique here in December 2006 with the visiting artist Susannah Coffey. I was thinking about something she mentioned on my work, and that I should have asked her about the "why" behind her statement. I get here today and she is the visiting artist again! How wonderful, I can ask her my question.
Other stuff:
No cell phone service (dumb Sprint) unless I walk up the mountain.
You can mail me letters, if you care to do so.
I didn't bring enough warm clothes.
More later, I'll settle in and send some studio shots.
